College History

Dreams and wishes are nothing more than desires. Desires become strong when they are supported by direction, dedication, determination, discipline and deadlines. Goals are dreams with a deadline and an action plan. With a long cherished deep desire to give quality education to the students of this economically backward rural area, an enthusiastic group of people of surrounding villages under the leadership of Late Ashwini Kumar Pati, a great social worker with his  philanthropic zeal compiled with a single minded dedication, Late Aryya Kumar Banerjee (Hon’ble the then I.C.,B.U), Late Dr. Rama Ranjan Mukherjee (the-then Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, B.U), Sri Ramchandan, Sri P.C. Ingty, respected D. Ms., Bankura, with strenuous pains sowed the seed. First they started by doing what was necessary, then what was possible and suddenly the impossible. The College then had the only capital of the noble co-operation of the local people of surrounding villages and their benign donations. The college had been named after the site, Saldiha, where it is situated, to eternalize the magnanimous contribution of the local people. The tiny seed, now growing into a mighty tree, has been very fondly offering numberless education lovers its calm shade throughout years.

Glimpses of the past

A beacon to the almost dimly vast rural human tract in higher education, Saldiha College, Bankura (W.B.) has on its long and marvellous march to the dedicated services to the nation since its humble beginning in 1966. Its foundation of advancement never seems to run dry even in the teeth of odds coming to its courses of nearly 48 years. Ever green it is. Wonderfully illuminant was the date, 22nd August, 1996, a bright beck to a far-off destination of epoch-making. The would be immense possible Saldiha College was implanted on the very auspicious day on the holy soil of Saldiha, an eye-kissing and mind-captivating location. "Far from the madding crowd", in a pleasant natural landscape, beset with bowery trees, the site fascinating every one, is an ideal academic atmosphere in the blossom of Nature. The college is situated at Saldiha, forty-five Km from Bankura town by the side of Bankura-Purulia via Bangla, Jorda, Saldiha bus-route on the south - western border of Bankura district. Within a radius of 45 Kms. before 1966, there was no degree college. Most poor people of this tract had to undergo pecuniary hardship to get their words educated, placing them in far-off colleges. Initially the neighbouring Saldiha High School had been hosting the college for sessions together and subsequently the college was shifted to the present premise. At present the college is housed in a fascinating two-storied building including one recently built, annexed with a charming wide campus in fifteen  acres of land. With the progress of time and constant endeavour of all concerned this college has now been able to gain ground in the educational map of West Bengal for its prominence. On its constant forward move the college aims at fulfilling its mission of pursuing knowledge, both within and outside the institution and making responsible and responsive citizens of this global village. It is a matter of immense  pride to see that the students of this college have been well placed in all spheres of life as in the fields of education, research, administration, social work etc., throughout in and abroad.
